All About Me
My name is Curtis Dean DeJong. I was born in Grand Rapids, MI. I grew up in Cedar Springs, MI. home of the Red Flannels. I have lived in the Cedar Springs area for almost all my life.
I met my wife 13 years ago at a local church camp. We were friends for a very long time, and we were married on December 11, 2010. She has been my support, my rock, my best friend, and has gotten me through the best of times and the worst of times.
I am an active member of my church, where I have taught Sunday School, Junior Church, and have Directed Vacation Bible School, Junior Church, SPARKS for Boys and Girls, and have served as Assistant Sunday School Superintendent and Co-Chair of the Christian Education Committee.
I attended Cedar Springs Public Schools K-12. I feel as though the education I received was fantastic. Upon graduating from Cedar Springs High School, I started my journey of furthering my education at Grand Rapids Community College. As I was at Grand Rapids Community College, I was pursuing a degree in Business and Accounting however, with everyone I knew telling me I should be a teacher, and not doing so well in all my accounting classes, I started my Journey of becoming an Elementary Teacher.
I made the move to Ferris State University, where I began taking and excelling in my school studies. Upon completion of my student teaching courses, I will have a Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education, with minors in Language Arts, Social Studies, and Child Development.
Upon completion of my Child Development Minor, I was privileged enough to start my very own Preschool Program with Stepping Stones Learning Center of Big Rapids. This program was geared for kindergarten readiness. During the establishment of this program I was fortunate enough to go through the licensing and accreditation process for the state of Michigan and for the NAEYC (National Association of Education for Young Children). This experience has given me so much that I will be able to use in my future career opportunities.
I am currently on the journey of student teaching. I am working currently at Greenville Public Schools, in a second grade classroom. With this experience, I will be ready for the next step in my journey of becoming a teacher.
